You are in Taos with a raging desire to bicycle this popular New
Mexico century---only you prefer to leisurely discover for yourself
the reason New Mexicans named this the Enchanted Circle. If so we
extend to you a warm invitation to join us. We will take care of
arrangements for your evening's comfort in Red River, provide full
support with plenty of refreshments, and our guides are available for
historical and geological interpretation of tour route. Full tour fee is due at time of registration. Day 1 Our route starts in Taos (elevation 6,950 ft.) heading
east on Highway 64. Following the picturesque Rio Fernado de
Taos, we gradually wind our way up to the top of Palo
Flechado Pass (elevation 9,100 ft.) and into the Sangre de
Cristo Mountains. You will descend into the Moreno Valley
with its broad sweeping vistas. This beautiful, peaceful
valley was a busy and rowdy gold mining region in the late
1800's. We will pass by some of the remnants of the valley's
ghost town as we begin our final climb of the day to the
summit of Bobcat Pass (elevation 9,820 ft.). The scenery is
spectacular as we descend into Red River (elevation 8,750
feet). Red River is another old mining town that boomed
nearly a century ago when gold was discovered in surrounding
mountains. Day 2 After breakfast, we will enjoy a 13-mile downhill coast,
passing the Moly Corporation molybdenum mine on our way to
Questa. From Questa to Taos, you will see the Rio Grande
Gorge and the broad sage-covered Taos Plateau on the western
horizon. The mountain peaks of the Sangre de Cristo creates
a incredible backdrop for this day ride. We will ride to the
Rio Grande Gorge Bridge, which spans this natural wonder of
northern New Mexico. The river is 600 feet below. We turn
around and proceed to Taos. Tour Reservations: For a tour reservation, please fill out a Tour Application (pdf) or contact us for more information.
