Orientation and Your Santa Fe Day: Join us for breakfast in Santa Fe. We will introduce you to Santa Fe and visit the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum. The rest of the day is yours for exploring Santa Fe, its other museums, galleries, and shops. You may want to experience an evening of Santa Fe’s fine dining and one of its cultural events. Your tour packet includes information and schedule of events to choose from. Meals and accommodations for this day is not included in tour fee; admission to the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum is included.
Day 2 Abiquiu to Ghost Ranch return to Abiquiu: This day captures the essence of what has inspired and continues to attract artists—discover for yourself the never ending variation of light, color, and form that motivated O’Keeffe’s work. We will have paints, brushes, and “canvas paper” available for you to paint your own “original”. Day 3 Tour of O'Keeffe home, Abiquiu to Ojo Caliente: After breakfast, a tour of Ms. O’Keeffe’s Abiquiu home perched above the valley, enriches one’s understanding of her life, inspiration, and work. We leave Abiquiu and bicycle pass prehistoric Indian ruins and remnants of their “waffle gardens” on our way through El Rito, a small Hispanic village…and college town! The rural road continues through this high desert country before jogging south to geothermal hot springs and spa at Ojo Caliente. Relax and enjoy the hot mineral pools. Indulge in a massage, wrapped or anyone for a mud bath? Day 4 Ojo Caliente to Taos: Breathe deep and smell the aromatic fragrance of the sage and pinon. Leaving the river valley and traveling across the Taos Plateau, you may hear ghostly echos of the “Chili Line” Train that traveled across this land from the late 1880’s until the early 1940’s. The train brought artists, gamblers, ranchers, and many other colorful characters to Taos. We cross the spectacular Rio Grande Gorge Bridge and arrive in Taos, one of Georgia’s favorite hangouts. Relax and enjoy Taos as an artist colony; or a place where Indian, Spanish and Anglo cultures weave together a colorful tapestry; or as an outdoor recreation mecca. Our last two nights are at Tony and Mabel Dodge Luhan’s “hacienda”. Day 5 Explore Taos Day: Taos provides many fascinating opportunities for exploring, discovering, and capturing its many facets. We visit several of the sites that were the subjects for Ms. O’Keeffe’s paintings and gain an appreciation for her unique perspective. Our last evening of the tour is highlighted with elegant dining and a special performance.
