Carefree Excursion Odyssey

Do you have the desire to escape from the hubbub of the city and urban living? This bicycle tour leaves from Carefree, just north of Phoenix, Arizona. It combines some challenging days of cycling with rewarding and relaxing days off in three of Arizona's stellar destinations. Our route travels from the Sonoran Desert landscapes through alpine country to red rock canyons; from ghost towns to a luxurious resort haven. This tour provides two nights at each stellar destination allowing for more exploration of the area and activities available.

Day 1 & 2: Carefree to Wickenburg (Altitude: 2,100 feet, Distance: 63 miles/101 km)

Walk the streets of Wickenburg, where the cowboys and gold miners of the Old West mingled in the late 1800’s. Enjoy your stay at the Rancho De Los Caballeros with spa and outdoor activities.

Wickenburg is packed with history going back to the gold rush era. The story of the town comes together in a walking tour. Nearby is the Hassayampa River Preserve with an amazing variety of seldom seen birds and reptiles that you seldom see.

Day 3 & 4: Wickenburg to Prescott (Altitude: 5,300 feet, Distance: 58 miles/93 km)

Leaving the desert valley we ascend Yarnell Hill. We will cycle through high-grassland country before we wind our way to the alpine community of Prescott.

Enjoy the charm of Prescott, with its many historic buildings, museums, shops and art galleries. Perhaps you would like a change of modality, such as hiking along the trails in the rugged Bradshaw or Mingus Mountains near Prescott, horseback riding, or a game of golf at the 36-hole Antelope Hills Golf Course.

Day 5 & 6: Prescott to Sedona (Altitude: 4,500 feet, Distance: 66 miles/106 km)

We will pass by the Granite Dells, with its weathered granite boulders in whimsical shapes, on our way to Jerome and Sedona.

Sedona offers some easy scenic cycling in red rock country. Rent a mountain bike for some off-road cycling. Sedona rivals Santa Fe as an art center: fine art galleries exhibit impressive, high quality original art. There are also a variety of delightful shops.

Day 7: Van from Sedona to Carefree
